Flutterwave founder and Chief Executive Officer, Olugbenga Agboola, has emerged as the only Nigerian on Fintech Magazine’s 2026 list of the Top 100 Fintech Leaders.
Agboola made the global list alongside prominent industry executives, including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, Block CEO Jack Dorsey, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Stripe co-founder Patrick Collison.
According to Fintech Magazine, the ranking considered several factors, including the scale and impact of each organisation, governance and responsibility, professional recognition and influence within the fintech industry.
Agboola’s recognition comes as Flutterwave continues to expand its operations beyond payment processing into broader financial services and infrastructure.
In 2026, Flutterwave secured a Nigerian Microfinance Bank licence, giving the fintech the ability to hold funds and deposits directly. The licence also creates opportunities for the company to expand its business accounts, payment, payout and treasury services.
The company has also strengthened its position in open banking following its acquisition of African open banking platform, Mono.
Flutterwave said the acquisition would boost its access to financial data and strengthen its open banking infrastructure across Africa.
The fintech is also working on stablecoin-based and multi-currency solutions aimed at supporting cross-border payments.
Earlier in 2026, Flutterwave announced that it had processed more than $50bn in total transaction value through over one billion transactions.
The company’s valuation also climbed above $3.2bn after it received strategic investments from global fintech companies Ripple and Circle.
Commenting on the 2026 list, Fintech Magazine CEO Glen White said the recognised leaders were driving significant changes across the financial services industry through technology and financial inclusion.
“Their work is transforming the industry, driving financial inclusion and embedding innovation across products, platforms and customer experience,” White said.
Beyond Flutterwave, Agboola has continued to support Africa’s startup ecosystem through Resilience17, a venture studio and early-stage investment platform that backs founders building businesses across the continent.
