Spotify simplifies playlist importing from other streaming services

The mobile app now works directly with TuneMyMusic’s playlist transfer service.

Back in August, Apple Music rolled out a tool that allowed users to import playlists from other streaming platforms. At the same time, controversy around Daniel Ek’s comments stirred outrage, and some artists began leaving Spotify. The two events may not have been connected, but the timing certainly drew attention. Now Spotify has responded with its own playlist transfer option, aiming to win back listeners who might be considering a switch.

Instead of building a new system from scratch, Spotify integrated TuneMyMusic, a service that already moves playlists between platforms like Tidal, YouTube Music, Qobuz, Beatport, and even Napster. TuneMyMusic is one of several tools that offer this feature; others include Soundiiz and SongShift, the service behind Apple Music’s import feature.

Users could go directly to these third-party tools, but most of them limit how many playlists you can move or how long those playlists can be unless you pay for a premium tier. By routing the process through Spotify or Apple, users get unlimited transfers at no extra cost, though the transfers only work one way.

Spotify has started rolling out the ability to transfer playlists directly within its mobile app, and the feature is becoming available to users around the world.
